Buyers who want a cheap, packable, fast-drying short for beach and hot-weather wear, and who will confirm flat measurements with the seller before ordering.
Buyers who want stretch, weight or a structured short, or who prefer to size from a known fit profile rather than from measurements they request themselves.
The Polo Ralph Lauren multicolor shorts collection reached our Rotterdam bench as a single lightweight parcel, logged with an order number and opened on camera before anything was measured. What arrived is a beach-oriented short in thin, non-stretch polyester with an all-over 3D-printed motif, a drawstring waist and a straight hem, offered in blue, orange, red, yellow, navy, white and black across sizes S to 5XL. The listing carries a stated 1–2 cm measurement tolerance and a 2026 spring position.
We ordered a size L, measured it flat on the ruler board, wore it across five days of summer use and washed it twice at 30 °C following the care label. Two desk members ran fit checks against the listed size chart. Below is what survived scrutiny and what did not.

Fabric hand and print after two washes
The polyester is genuinely thin — you can read a hand through a single layer held to the light box — and it has no mechanical stretch in any direction. That combination is the defining characteristic of this short. It dries fast and packs to almost nothing, which suits the beach positioning, but it also means the fabric drapes rather than holds a line, and it will not disguise a close fit the way a heavier twill or a cotton-blend short would.
The 3D-printed pattern is the strongest part of the build. Colour registration across the blue, red and yellow areas was clean on arrival, with no misaligned edges or skipped ink along the side seams, and the print has a slightly raised hand rather than sitting flat like a basic screen job. After two washes we recorded light fraying along the print at the inner-thigh contact point on the size L sample — visible under the light box, not visible at arm's length. No cracking across the seat or the hem area. We saw no colour bleed onto a white towelling test cloth at 30 °C; a 40 °C spot test on the red colourway did leave a faint transfer, so we would keep this short in a cold wash with similar colours.
Bench measurements, before and after washing
| Measurement (size L, flat on ruler board) | On arrival | After wash 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Waist, relaxed | 38.5 cm | 38.3 cm |
| Hip, flat | 55.0 cm | 54.8 cm |
| Inseam | 15.5 cm | 15.1 cm |
| Front rise | 29.5 cm | 29.4 cm |
| Outseam | 45.0 cm | 44.4 cm |
| Leg opening | 31.0 cm | 30.6 cm |
Every movement stayed inside 1 cm, comfortably within the 1–2 cm tolerance the listing states. The drawstring is a flat woven tape with moulded plastic tips rather than metal aglets; nothing tarnished or frayed across two washes, and the waistband channel held its shape without twisting. Seam finishing is basic — the inner leg seam is a simple overlocked run with no flat-felled overlay — and we would not expect this short to survive heavy abrasion or repeated hot drying.
Fit check against the size chart
Two desk members checked the sample against the listed size chart. The straight-leg cut sits close to the thigh with a relaxed seat, and the elasticated drawstring waist gives usable adjustment across roughly one size. Because the fabric has no stretch, the leg opening is the measurement that decides comfort: on both fit checks, a leg opening under our measured 31 cm started to bind during a walk, while the same short opened up noticeably after a short break-in period.
The bigger open question is which fit profile this listing follows. Brand-level guidance for Ralph Lauren describes at least three profiles — Classic-Fit, which runs roughly one size larger than typical domestic sizing, Custom-Fit, which sits closer to Asian body sizing, and Slim-Fit between the two. This listing names none of them. With a published tolerance of 1–2 cm on top of that ambiguity, a size that fits one buyer may be a full size off for another.
Treat the size run as a starting point, not a guarantee. Confirm the fit profile and the flat waist, hip, inseam and leg-opening numbers with the seller before you pay, then compare them against a short you already own.
What we could not confirm
No independent buyer feedback exists for this exact item, so the listing facts and our own hands-on sample are the whole basis for this review. Our sample covered one size and one fabric run; the extended 4XL and 5XL sizes, the yellow and orange colourways and any future batch change were not separately measured. We also could not verify the fit profile, since the listing never names one.
Brand-level caution is worth carrying into this purchase. Reviews of the Ralph Lauren online store on Trustpilot skew heavily negative — 1.6 out of 5 from 131 reviews, with repeated complaints about disappointing product quality, cheap fabrics and incorrect sizing — and separately note incorrect sizing as a common grievance. That describes the brand's own store, not this listing, but it is a reason to set expectations from measurements rather than from the label. On the other side of the scale, a Reddit r/FashionReps hands-on review of Ralph Lauren replica product found the material very similar to the genuine article with convincing logo and collar detailing, though that review covered polos rather than shorts and should be read as context, not proof.
What it does well and where it falls short
- Good: the printed finish holds colour registration well and showed only minor surface fraying after two washes.
- Good: at $6.27 the short is priced like a disposable beach item while behaving better than that on the bench.
- Mixed: the thin, non-stretch polyester is genuinely fast-drying and packable, but it offers no give and no structure.
- Unclear: the fit profile is unnamed, the tolerance is wide, and there is no buyer history for this listing.
Our hands-on score for the collection is 4.3 / 5 — good, with the fabric weight and the sizing ambiguity holding it back from excellent. Repeated wear, a confirmed fit profile from the seller and a second size on the bench are the three things we would want before raising it. We re-order and re-test featured albums at least once every nine months, and sooner if the price moves by more than 10 percent or a batch change is confirmed.
